Air Leakage and the use of Vapour Barrier

Water vapour  and air moves from areas of high pressure to areas of lower pressure. meaning water vapour and air are constantly attempting to pass through the walls and roof of your building structure.
Constant moisture diffusion can cause vapour to condense on cold surfaces within the cavity walls and enclosed structures of the roof, where your insulation is located.
When this occurs, moisture damage such as mould, mildew and rot can result.

To maximize the lifespan of your home insulation effectiveness and prevent potential damage to the building’s structural integrity.
Ramstown recommends the use of Vapour Barrier. Similar to human skin, the  vapour barrier is a semi-permeable membrane that alters it’s state relative to the level of humidity in the air and in so doing acts as a moisture management system for your timber frame home.
As water vapour moves from areas of high pressure to areas of lower pressure, the direction in which it permeates (from outside in or inside out) varies, depending on the time of year.
